To see well an object of time...

“ To open our eyes, we must know how to close them. An eye that is always open, always vigilant - the fantasy of Argus - becomes dry. A dry eye may perhaps see everything, all the time. But it will see badly. To see well, we need all our tears - a paradox of experience. (...) We must open our eyes to be attentive, to respect the object of our historic questions. But we must also know to close our eyes to see the object better, to interpret it and understand how it affects us. We must accept the fluttering of our eyelids. That is when tears well up, while the visible emerges behind the flimsy drapery of our eyelids. To see well - including, and above all, an object of time - we must know how to open but also close our eyes. “
